Dr. Guillermo Defossé

Dr. Defossé is an agricultural engineer, holds a Master's degree in Natural Resources, and earned a Ph.D. in Forest Sciences from the University of Idaho. He is professor emeritus and full professor of Ecology at the Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia (National University of Patagonia, Esquel campus) and a Principal Researcher at CONICET, Argentina's National Scientific and Technical Research Council. He was director of the Centro de Investigación Esquel de Montaña y Estepa Patagónica (CIEMEP, the Esquel Research Center for Patagonian Mountain and Steppe) in Esquel between 2020 and 2023, and currently sits on the governing board of CIEFAP (the Andean Patagonian Forest Research and Extension Center).
He has also directed numerous national and international research projects on fire ecology and fire management. He has 115 publications in peer-reviewed national and international journals and 166 contributions to congresses, conferences, technical reports, and presentations in various media.
Since 2015 he has directed the doctoral program in Vegetation Fire Ecology and Management at the School of Engineering of the Universidad de la Patagonia (UNPSJB), and since 2018 the Laboratorio de Ecología, Meteorología y Gestión de Fuegos de Vegetación (LEMIV, the Laboratory of Vegetation Fire Ecology, Meteorology and Management), which is part of CIEMEP–CONICET–UNPSJB.
