Dr. Fabián Scholz
Principal Researcher
INBIOP · CONICET
Fabián Gustavo Scholz holds a degree in Physical Sciences and a Ph.D. in Biology from the Universidad de Buenos Aires (University of Buenos Aires). He is a Principal Researcher at CONICET, Argentina's National Scientific and Technical Research Council; director of the Instituto de Biociencias de la Patagonia (INBIOP, the Patagonia Institute of Biosciences); associate professor at the Universidad Nacional de la Patagonia San Juan Bosco (National University of Patagonia San Juan Bosco); and director of the Grupo de Estudios Biofísicos y Ecofisiológicos (GEBEF, the Biophysical and Ecophysiological Studies Group). He also has a distinguished record in the training of researchers and in management, having served on the governing boards of CIEFAP (the Andean Patagonian Forest Research and Extension Center), INTA (the National Institute of Agricultural Technology), and the Agencia Comodoro Conocimiento y Desarrollo.
His work focuses mainly on the functional ecology of arid and semi-arid ecosystems in Patagonia, studying carbon and water fluxes, the functioning of vegetation, and the impact of land management on those processes. His research provides a very solid scientific basis for understanding the potential of these environments as carbon sinks and the effects of climate change.
Takes part in
- 12:30–13:20 Panel Panel 3 — Science, innovation, Sea
To highlight and reflect on how scientific research, technological innovation, and knowledge of ecosystems can contribute to the development of climate solutions, the generation of environmental assets, and the creation of new opportunities for investment and sustainable development in Chubut. The panel will underscore the importance of scientific rigor, data quality, and technical validation as the foundations for the design of public policy, the development of environmental projects, and the construction of reliable financing mechanisms. It will also address the capacity of the ecosystems of Chubut to act as carbon sinks and biodiversity reservoirs, and their potential to generate certifiable services.
Recordings will be available on the YouTube channel of the Province of Chubut once the event has concluded.
